We can only hope this letter will accurately portray the love and dedication we have for each other as well as the joy we have at the prospect of being parents. We have always dreamed of loving and caring for a child and after struggling with infertility, we concluded an open adoption is the most natural way to complete our family. Our Lives Together We met while working together and were married in the summer of 2000. We knew early in our relationship that we wanted children to be a part of our lives and have focused our energies on preparing a loving and secure home for our family. We are so excited about being parents and can't wait to share our love. Being an ethnically diverse couple we love living in a multicultural neighborhood. Our home is on a quiet street with many young families, and is within walking distance to the library, walking paths, a park with a beach and new play area, several restaurants and coffee shops. We love the city life but also love to spend our free time outdoors. On the weekends we enjoy boating, biking, walking our dogs Bo and Rocco and visiting nearby state parks. We also enjoying hanging out at home watching movies, playing scrabble and having friends over for dinner. Vacation time is important to us and we enjoy taking road trips to national parks and visiting warm weather destinations like Mexico, Arizona and Florida. We look forward to traveling with our child, showing them new sites and cultures. About My Wife I believe my wife was placed on this earth to be a mom, she is great with kids. She has a degree in elementary education and has always worked with children since she began babysitting at the age of 11. She has been a camp counselor, teacher, youth programs director and most recently was the director of a childcare center. She is currently at home and is really excited about being a stay at home mom. She loves to read, bake and spends free time decorating our home, working in the garden and shopping with friends. Personally, Colleen About My Husband Dutch loves the outdoors and is an avid fisherman. He also enjoys golf, playing on a softball team, and participating in a Fantasy Football league. In his free time Dutch enjoys fishing with his brother, walking the dogs and watching any sporting event on TV. He is warm, caring and patient, qualities I know will make him a great dad. I can just imagine him showing our children how to fish, teaching them to ride a bike or just spending quiet time together reading stories. He is always a hit with the children of our friends and family. They love playing with him and know "Uncle Dutch" means fun. Our Families We are blessed with wonderful families all of whom live in close to us. Dutch was raised in Minneapolis and Colleen grew up about 30 minutes west. Colleen sees her parents and older twin siblings often. She has fun with her mom and sister, shopping, going out to lunch, and going to local art festivals. Her parents spend the winter in Arizona, and we try to visit them each year. Dutch has a great relationship with his family, including his six nieces and nephews. We see his family regularly for holidays and birthday celebrations. His family gatherings are always loud, fun filled occasions with dozens of people feasting on his mom and sister's home cooked meals. Our families are excited at the prospect of us adopting a child.
